Is the holiday season leaving your wallet a little lighter? You can get a little money back from Uncle Sam by donating gently used clothing and other houseware items to Goodwill Industries of Kanawha Valley, Inc. for an end-of-the-year tax write-off. By cleaning your closets and garages, you get more than a tax deduction. Goodwill uses the revenue from your donations for its education and career services for people with disabilities and disadvantages such as welfare dependence, homelessness, and lack of education or work experience. Last year, Goodwill Industries of Kanawha Valley, Inc. channeled 89% of its revenues directly into its services. "End the holiday season and start the new year off right by giving the gift of hope," David L. Acord, President/CEO, said. "Every donation to Goodwill helps make 2002 a better year for hundreds of local individuals who need job training and other services." In order to accommodate those making the last minute effort to donate items during 2001, most Attended Donation Centers will be staying open later than usual. The Charleston, Elkview, Teays Valley, Beckley and Summersville Attended Donation Centers will stay open until 8 p.m. Madison and Montgomery will close at 5 p.m. Goodwill accepts clothing, household items, toys, cars and other vehicles--even those holiday gifts that weren't quite right. Donors interested in claiming tax deducations should keep itemized lists of their donations. The Internal Revenue Service allows a deduction for each item, |
